KUCHING
: An initiative like no other, the “7 Wonders of Borneo” made a sterling
impression as it premiers to 3,500 meetings professionals in Frankfurt, Germany
attending IMEX, a landmark exhibition for global experts working within the
incentive travel, meetings and events industry.
“Beyond its pristine rainforests, Sarawak
brings forth a mystical charm and carries an uninhibited warrior gene.
“We traced and tracked this pulse to the
profession of Business Events; to make a tribal twist to set us apart from
conventional business destinations,” explains Amelia Roziman, General Manager
of Marketing and Sales for the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB).
SCB, established in 2006, has driven
Sarawak, Borneo to be the leading 2nd tier destination of the Asia Pacific and
will play host to the 2016 ICCA Congress in the capital city of Sarawak –
Kuching.
“Sarawak has won a staggering number of 395
conferences since SCB’s conception, contributing a revenue of RM337 million to
Malaysia’s largest state with the active collaboration of local key industries
and the unwavering fiscal and moral support of the state government,” said Mike
Cannon, Managing Director of SCB.
“From a mere tropical island to an
unreckonable force in the aggressive nature of Business Events, Sarawak
embodies the rags-to-riches story.
“This uncanny rise reflects the value of
maintaining our roots, which sets the groundwork for the 7 Wonders of Borneo
initiative,” elaborates Roziman, who also heads the Public Relations and
Marketing Committee for the local host under ICCA 2016.
This mystical escapade showcases the best
of Sarawak in a spectacular 7-series feature, inclusive of the Orang-Utan, the
state’s indigenous tribe, Mount Mulu, the Rajah Brooke butterfly, Sarawak’s
colonial history, the Raffesia, and the carnivorous Nepenthes.
“These are just fragments of what Sarawak
can offer. There are many Bornean treasures left to be uncovered. Come and
experience our home, your adventure awaits!” concludes Roziman.
