“Starting next year, I hope all active KRT centres will get a bigger grant and those which are less active or inactive will be getting less,” said Halimah.

She said the KRT Cares Programme is very significant in the current pandemic situation where the lives of many in the community have been affected.

“This programme is an initiative of the Ministry of National Unity to ensure the survival and well-being of the community during the Covid-19 pandemic through the empowerment of Rukun Tetangga community responsibilities.

“This programme is based on the concept of RT4ALL which is RT for all sections of society regardless of background differences through the spirit of togetherness with the hashtag #KitaBersama.

“The RT Cares programme is in line with the Rukun Tetangga Community Work Agenda (RT4ALL) under the RT Sejahtera Community Work Agenda,” she said.

The objectives of the RT Care Programmes are to strengthen the Ministry’s social responsibility to help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic through the empowerment of the KRT; mobilise and strengthen the role of KRT in ensuring the survival and well-being of the community during the pandemic period; assist government initiatives to combat Covid-19 and further accelerate the roll-out of the National Immunisation Programme; and to form a caring and loving society.

This programme has the concept of outreach services, which is to assist the KRT through Food Box Assistance and Basic Necessities to the KRT affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which is mobilised by RT volunteers.

“The RT Cares programme started in Melaka on July this year and as of Oct 18, a total of 77,752 recipients have benefited from the implementation of this programme.

“In Sarawak, the total number of recipients of RT Cares Programmes contributions is 11,140 people,” Halimah added.

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council Chairman Lo Khere Chiang will look into the needs of the residents at Taman Flora Indah flat here who have requested for an additional parking space at the area.

He said that he had received requests from the residents to build more car parks in view of the increasing number of vehicles owned by the flat residents.

“I have plans to extend the car park, but all this can be done only after the Land and Survey Department has issued the strata titles.

“The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is in the final stage of getting the strata titles concerned.

“Thus, I urge everyone to be patient and to not to carry out any unauthorised extension before the strata titles are out,” he said.

Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, said that if an unauthorised extension to the existing car park is made, it would further complicate the process of acquiring the strata titles.

“I will also discuss with the residents on the car park extension while maintaining the green area here,” he said.

At the same time, he also called upon each block of the flat to appoint a leader so that the residents can easily inform their respective leaders should any issue arise.

“Let’s work together to make Taman Flora Indah a beautiful place … and as time goes on, I will put in more effort to improve this area,” he said.

Yesterday (Oct 18), Lo witnessed the handing over of the completed project of Taman Flora Indah by HDC engineer Hassan Hazli Huspi to Taman Flora Indah Committee chairman Ong Liang Boo in a simple handing over ceremony.

KUCHING: Members of the public are encouraged to donate to the needy by purchasing artworks from artists through the Art for Heart (A4H) charity platform.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said all proceeds from the sales will be used to support and assist the needy in the community.

“Every sen of proceeds will go to charity for a good cause, as well as to those who need it the most, such as the sick and the less fortunate,” he assured at the launch of Art for Heart Charity Platform at his Batu Kitang Service Centre on Friday (Oct 8).

Lo who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman disclosed that he has encountered many people in need, some of whom require more assistance than the others.

“In addition to those who need major operations and are generally sick and bedridden, there were many others who required simple items such as hearing aid, patient beds, and wheelchairs.

“We have a variety of places to donate depending on the amount raised. We won’t just throw in money because we need to figure out what we are doing first, we need to know what the public wants us to do, and then we will work with our donors and members to make it happen.

“Since this is the beginning of the charity platform, we will shortly set up a committee to determine who is eligible for aid,” he stated.

Lo expressed his hope that the charity platform would gather even more artists, including those with talents to create things that would be sold to the public for a good course.

“This is a platform for charity, and since we have started this platform, I am confident that we will be able to do much more in the name of charity.

“I will also keep everyone updated on who we have chosen to assist and how their situation is progressing as I will utilise all of the resources available to assist these folks. I wish all of us every success,” he added.
