A cool RM17 mln rates collection pleases MPP
KUCHING:
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has collected about RM17 million or 83
per cent of the total assessment bills for this year.
Its
chairman Lo Khere Chiang yesterday expressed satisfaction with the
collection rate where he felt the figure was a good achievement.
“The 83 per cent collection rate is considered a good figure, thanks to our rate payers. Besides, we have managed to recover 25 per cent of our arrears and we will continue to collect it,” he told a press conference after chairing the full council meeting at MPP office here.
Earlier, MPP acting municipal secretary Ita Ling revealed that about RM2.5 million out of RM10 million of assessment bill arrears had been successfully collected, some were even back- dated from the 1970s.
Lo had announced that MPP will be using a new assessment rate bill format starting 2011.
He explained that the new bill will be in A4 size with an additional bar code feature.
“It is not an increase in rate. Incorporating the bar code feature is to improve our service delivery. The bar code will enable us to collect bills easier, faster with fewer errors. With the bar code, we could amend information pertaining to our rate payers more efficiently,” he said.
For the convenience of MPP rate payers, the council had opened a customer service centre in Batu Kawa New Township since March 2010.
However, it had caught the attention of Lo that not many MPP residents were aware of the existence of the counter.
“The customer service counter enables MPP to be nearer to rate payers and to provide better counter services. We are attending to any complaint from rubbish collection, grass cutting to drainage cleaning services,” Lo said.
The counter also attends to enquiries on assessment rate bills as well as collection of current and arrears assessment rate bills, besides attending to complaints and requests for services.
The counter near to Bata shoe outlet is located at BK 208, 1st floor. It is opened from 8am to 1pm and 2pm to 3.30pm from Monday to Thursday.
While its opening hours on Friday are from 8am to 11.45am and 2.15pm to 3.30pm. It can be contacted at 082-576729.
