KUCHING: SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (SHOAW) melakar sejarah tersendiri apabila merangkul gelaran ketiga Kejohanan Ragbi Festival Kuching 2016. 
 
Detik manis itu dikecapi selepas menewaskan SMK Tebedu dengan 47-12 dalam aksi final di Padang Song Kheng Hai di sini kelmarin sekali gus mengesahkan kejuaraan kali ketiga setelah memenangi kejohanan sama pada 2013 dan 2014. 

Skuad bimbingan ketua jurulatih, Zulkarnainhisham Sarbini tampil beraksi cemerlang sepanjang kejohanan sekali gus mengekalkan mutu persembahan pada kejohanan anjuran Kelab Ragbi Kuching (KRFC) dan Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS). 

Beliau turut menzahirkan penghargaan dan ucapan tahniah atas kejayaan anak-anak buahnya sepanjang kejohanan bawah 16 tahun itu. 

“Tahniah kepada semua pemain malah lebih manis pasukan kami menjuarai kejohanan ini untuk kali ketiga berturut- turut,” katanya ditemui selepas berakhir kejohanan itu di sini kelmarin. 

Zulkarnainhisham percaya pemain-pemainnya mengekalkan persembahan berkualiti dan berharap ia akan berterusan. 

Katanya, kejohanan itu tetap sengit meskipun pasukan pilihan Kolej DPAH Abdillah dan MRSM Kuching tidak menurunkan skuad penuh mereka. 

Beliau berharap agar lebih banyak aksi seperti peringkat suku dan separuh akhir dilangsungkan supaya pemainpemain berpeluang mendapatkan pengalaman. 

Pada kejohanan edisi 2016 itu membabitkan sebanyak 12 pasukan dari 10 sekolah sekitar Kuching dan Samarahan bertujuan mempromosikan sukan ragbi kalangan pelajar. 

Majlis penyampaian hadiah disempurnakan oleh Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Batu Kitang, Lo Khere Chiang turut dihadiri pengerusi penganjur, Timothy Julius dan Abdul Rahman Ibrahim serta Presiden KRFC, Yusuf Shah.

KUCHING: Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang has praised Ho Soon Physical Culture Club for its continuous effort in uniting the people.

He praised the club in his speech during  the Flag Distribution Campaign organised by the club conjunction with the 59th Merdeka Day celebration.

Lo’s speech was read by Kuching South City Councillor, Tnay Li Ping  during the campaign.

“I support activities such as this. Ho Soon Physical Culture Club has been doing this yearly to unite the people in the state,” he added.  

Meanwhile, Ho Soon Physical Culture Club president, Then Shui Ted urged all Malaysians to  appreciate the National Day.

According to him, as Malaysian citizens, we should be glad that the country is promoting the spirit of patriotism and unity to safeguard harmony and peace in the country.

 Also present at the Flag Distribution Campaign was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) publicity chief, Wilfred Yap.

Batu Kitang ballot papers burnt

KUCHING: Ballot papers cast in the recent state election for Batu Kitang constituency have been burnt accordingly.

Witnessing the process yesterday were Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, former DAP candidate Abdul Aziz Isa and former PKR candidate Voon Shiak Ni’s campaign manager Simon Siah.
In a press statement issued by Abdul Aziz yesterday, he assured voters that their votes were secret and totally anonymous, and urged voters to come out in full force in future elections.

“After six months on the expiry of the petition period, the Returning Officer, after getting permission from the Election Commission, would destroy the ballot papers and documents before submitting a certificate of disposal to the state office.

“The papers and other related documents for Batu Kitang were burnt by Padawan Municipal Council at Hai Ming Paper Mills Sdn Bhd premises at Jalan Muara Tuang, Kota Samarahan.

“We stayed until the ‘destroying’ process was completed to show respect to the election process and to safeguard and prevent the documents from being tampered with,” he said.

以往这项大会只在雪隆区举办，让外坡的企业代表无法参与。

今年为让更多人受惠，大会决定在5大城市举办包括雪隆、怡保、新山、槟城和古晋举行。

SJK Chung Hua Stapok charity ride

KUCHING: The rebuilding project committee of SJK Chung Hua Stapok will launch the first leg of its fund-raising campaign this Oct 30, slated to raise RM3.5 million for the construction of a new school block (Block B) and a multi-purpose hall.

“We aim to raise RM200,000 during the charity ride to be run on Oct 30, and we hope to receive public donations after the launch,” he told a press conference on the event here yesterday.

Yian Chai disclosed that Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang had pledged RM20,000 and RM10,000, respectively, for the charity ride.

As at yesterday, piling works for Block B had reached completion, Yian Chai added.
On the RM2.5-million multi-purpose hall, he said the committee planned to perform the earth-breaking ceremony on Oct 10.

Meanwhile, Yian Chai expressed his thanks to the anonymous donors for making Block C, which is another new building of SJK Chung Hua Stapok, a reality.

The school, he said, had been facing shortage of classrooms for a couple of years.

“With this new block scheduled to be ready within this year, the school will be able to accept more pupils beginning 2017,” said Yian Chai.

Block C, which is also a four-storey building, has nine classrooms and an administrative office.
The RM1.4-million project, which commenced on Oct 1 last year, was initially scheduled for completion this month but due to a technical problem, it faced a one-month delay.

At present, SJK Chung Hua Stapok houses 380 pupils.

The management had to set up partitions in classrooms in order to run classes.

“The number of new pupils keeps on increasing every year. We are glad that the school will be able to take in more pupils beginning next year,” enthused Yian Chai, extending his gratitude and appreciation to Dr Sim, who had successfully requested for RM500,000 from the Ministry of Finance for the Block C project.

“Dr Sim also helped raise RM72,000 during our charity ride held last Dec 30.

“We would also like to thank UPP (United People’s Party) Batu Kawah chairman Liu Thian Leong for donating RM300,000.”

The charity ride is scheduled to commence at 6am on Oct 30 at the school.

Those wishing to take part are advised to submit their application forms by this Sept 15.

Budget 2017 likely to be devt-oriented too — Adenan

KUCHING: Sarawak’s Budget 2017 will likely be development-bias, with a ratio of 70:30 for development and recurrent expenditure.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said other states do not have that kind ratio in their budget, not even the national budget which is quite the opposite.

“The budget this year amounted to RM5.97 billion and development expenditure amounted to more than 74 per cent of the total allocation,” he said

at the inaugural Development Bank Infrastructure Forum held at Pullman Hotel here yesterday.
His text of speech was read by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing.

“The allocation of RM2.65 billion for rural development reflects the state government’s commitment to give greater focus on programmes and projects to further accelerate rural transformation for the benefit of rural communities,” he said.

Adenan believed that Sarawak’ Budget 2017 would largely retain the same theme as in the previous years and continue to be development-biased.

“It is important that the infrastructure-focus policies continue on until 2020 and even beyond and the State Budget 2017 will not lose track of this sight,” he assured.

While Sarawak is leading in the oil and gas and energy sector, Adenan pointed out that the state also holds great potential in other areas that have thus far remained largely underdeveloped, such as tourism, communications, infrastructure and the agriculture sectors.

“When you compare us to other states, we still have plenty of room to grow in terms of infrastructure development. Owing to our massive land size, scattered population and low population density, many rural areas are still largely deprived of basic needs such as roads, water, electricity supply and accessibility to healthcare and education,” he said.

To achieve Sarawak’s aspirations to become an economic powerhouse, Adenan added that the government had implemented several major infrastructure and economic projects in recent years which resulted in a healthy contribution to the nation’s GDP growth.

Sarawak, he stressed, was on track to become a very important regional development corridor as it has consistently performed well in attracting investments, both foreign and domestic.

“The achievement is not by chance but the result of the hard work and efforts coupled with business-friendly policies of the state government. We take great pride in this achievement, which reflects our resilience and the strength of our social structure and political will,” he added.

Adenan was happy to note that policymakers, bankers, economists, corporate leaders and many others participated in the forum that was dedicated to explore and debate challenges, opportunities and economic benefits of infrastructure in Sarawak as well as to seek ways to mobilise infrastructure funding for the state.

“Your presence certainly underscores our common desire to see that Sarawak can catch up with the rest of the country, Peninsular Malaysia in particular, in the standard of infrastructure facilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the one-day event, jointly organised by Malaysia Development Bank (BPMB), CIMB Group Holdings Berhad and RAM Rating Services Berhad, drew some 100 participants from various private and government agencies.

Special citizenship task force being finalised

KUCHING: A special task force to tackle the issue of citizenship among individuals under 21 years old in the state will be finalised and set into motion pending final approval of its committee members by the state cabinet.

A roundtable meeting chaired by Minister of Women, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the special task force was slated to run from September this year until Sept 2018.

The task force would comprise representatives of Education Department, Health Department, Immigration Department, Lawyers Office, Chief Minister’s Office, Islamic Religious Department Sarawak, Sarawak Native Customs Council, police, Welfare Department and grassroots leaders.

“Based on our log numbers, we have set a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the task force to attend and settle a total of 560 cases,” Fatimah told a press conference after a meeting here yesterday.

She added that the task force would only attend to genuine cases under the ‘Application For Citizenship’ under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution.

The verification process and procedures undertaken to ensure that a child was a genuine Malaysian citizen, she added, would take time as it would be carried out on a case-to-case basis.

Once a child’s citizenship has been properly verified, the supporting documents for the child’s application would be forwarded to the National Registration Department which would then forward it to the Ministry of Home Affairs for approval.

“To avoid any issues of granting Malaysian citizenship to a child, it is imperative that a couple’s marriage is registered with the National Registration Department even though the marriage is carried out through customary rights (adat istiadat),” she added.

Fatimah also said if the mother of a child was a foreigner and the father a Malaysian citizen, the child would take the citizenship of his/her mother. If the child is born out of wedlock and the mother a foreigner, the child would assume the citizenship of his/her mother.

“That is why registering a marriage with the NRD is important especially for those marrying foreigners. When a child’s citizenship is in question the implications is that he or she will have difficulty in getting proper education, health and welfare assistance.”

Fatimah also urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide special consideration to warrant citizenship to abandoned children.

The ministry, she added, had launched a special committee for children to obtain their birth certificate from January this year until Dec 2017.

“So far the committee has conducted 33 operations in 22 state constituencies in Sarawak and solved 1,008 cases. I hope the committee will consider extending the duration after 2017 as Sarawak is vast and has a scattered population,” she added.

他说，大部分慈善机构目前乃面对同样问题，即缺乏固定的经费来源，必须仰赖社会善心人士的捐款才能运作，始终无法照顾更多的不幸人士。
他认同慈善机构分担了政府照顾不幸人士的部分责任和义务，理应获得政府的全力支持，拨给足够的运作经费，可是事实并非如此。
也为巴都吉当区州议员的他是于昨晚出席为TIGI COLLECTION 2016慈善义演主持开幕仪式上致词时，这么表示。
他赞赏古晋美发公会虽财力物力有限，但依然尽一份社会公益力量，举办2016 TIGI慈善义演非常有意义，为慈善机构筹募经费，协助有需要的一群。
因此，他希望更多社团组织向古晋美发公会看齐，举办慈善活动，协助慈善机构及不幸人士。
据悉，古晋美发公会是由一群志同道合的美发师组织的团体所组成，除了照顾会员的权益和福利之外，也致力于社会公益事业，缔造更美好的社会。
值得一提的是，古晋美发公会一些会员美发师，经常参与慈善义剪活动，为华教及慈善机构筹款，精神可嘉。
同时，一些会员美发师也经常为不幸人士免费理发，也值得赞扬。

“比如发现有沟渠、路灯等问题，可以用手机拍下，再向市议会有关单位反映。总而言之，市议员的办事效率必须要快，因为这正是人民对于地方议会的期待。”
沈桂贤随后还主持石角服务中心挂招牌仪式，该服务中心的开放时间是星期一至星期五上午8时30分至中午12时，下午1时30分至4时30分。

Two Parkinson’s disease sufferers given walker

KUCHING: Batu Kitang State Assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang  handed over a walker to Parkinson’s disease sufferer 76-year-old Spiah.

Lo also handed over another walker to 83-year-old Kassim who is also suffering from the same disease.

Both Spiah and Kassim received their walkers on Thursday in Batu Kitang.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement.

It develops gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand.

But while a tremor may be the most well-known sign of Parkinson’s disease, the disorder also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement.

Although Parkinson’s disease can’t be cured, medications may markedly improve the symptoms.

巴达旺市议会主席罗克强兼州议员在记者会上批煽动石角新市镇小贩情绪的行为是不负责任的。

（本报古晋19日讯）巴达旺市议会主席罗克强州议员批张健仁随风起舞，听信石角新市镇小贩前管理公司负责人刘先生的谗言，把当地小贩作为政治斗争的工具，丝毫没有原则与立场，为了煽动小贩情绪而无所不用其极。


他说，该议会为了重新规划当地的小贩秩序，已经更好的管理当地小贩和附近居民面对的问题，早在2年前已经取回联邦农产品销售局（FAMA）对当地小 贩的管理权，而今年的6月30日也发出了最后通牒予另外一家小贩管理公司，但是，该公司负责人一再和议会进行对抗，导致目前整个局面的混淆。

他也指出，甚至该公司的负责人也污蔑他是因为报复行为而采取回收管理小贩的政策，这不但是子虚乌有的指责，更是惟恐天下不乱的不负责任行为。他今日 在新闻发布会上这么表示。同时，他也指出，巴达旺市议会在这之前不曾向小贩收过任何的费用，而在这之后，也不会征收高过于之前的费用。

“这是我罗克强讲的，而这个受惠管理权的决定则是全体市议员和小组的决定没有任何的徇私，而巴达旺市议会成立那么多年，都是从小贩的福利出发。而这个刘先生不但发表不负责任的言论，煽动小贩情绪，身为国州议员的张健仁也和他随风起舞，这是要不得的行为，我感到很失望。”

他也质问张健仁的原则在哪里？刘先生之前求助于联民党而拉布条与行动党切割关系，之后却转身投向行动党，更早之前也曾经攻击石角新市镇发展商，这样摇摆不定的立场，只是把当地小贩作为政治斗争的筹码。

“他们这样的言论根本就是垃圾，不是替小贩们着想。”

（古晋19日讯）巴达旺市议会主席罗克强于今日视察斯里达邦花园的道路，答应会对当地损坏的道路进行修补。

他是接获当地居民刘先生的投诉，指当地道路损坏不堪之后，率领数名市议员和地方社区领袖前往视察。在场包括本固鲁贝文美、甲必丹田德兴、市议员叶耀星、郑莉薲和杨应广。

罗克强向媒体表示，早前当地进行填泥土工程，每日有重型罗里经过，导致道路损坏。而如今该工程已经停止，因此市议会将会对该路进行修补，方便居民。

他说，整个需要修补的道路长度是200米，耗资5万令吉。

“这工程将会在明日进行，预计很快就会完工。”

也是巴都吉当区州议员的罗克强表示感激居民的告知，让市议会知道地区上的情况。而他也强调市议会在处理民生问题上，必须按部就班，分阶段进行，对此希望居民可以理解。

罗克强表示，虽然古晋的会宁同乡不多，但同乡都团结在同乡会的旗帜下，大力支持和关怀同乡会，积极参与同乡会活动。

“我希望更多会宁同乡，尤其是年轻的一代，应该自动自发加入同乡会，壮大组织的力量，共同为同乡及社会服务。

” 也是巴达旺市议会主席的罗克强是昨晚在古晋会宁同乡会第八届理事、第六届青年团、第三届妇女组执委宣誓就职礼暨庆祝成立14周年庆典晚宴上致词时，如是说。

罗克强昨晚代表砂地方政府部长拿督沉桂贤出席古晋药商公会40周年纪念联欢晚会暨拿督杨昆贤教育奖励金颁奖礼上指出，古晋药商公会肩负社会责任，教育民众千万不要滥用药物，也不要服用来历不明的药物或偏方。

他称，药商公会为民众提供医药咨询，并奉劝病患遵照医生或药商指示，定时定量服药，才会药到病除，早日康复。

PMC to tar-seal road for Jln Tmn Sri Tapang residents

KUCHING: Residents of a housing area inside Jalan Taman Sri Tapang at 7th Mile here can breathe a sigh of relief after Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) agreed to tar-seal the road outside their homes.
Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang said that works to tar-seal the 200 metres road, estimated to cost RM50,000, will commence today (Aug 20).

A resident, who wanted to be known as Liew, has filed complaints with the council on numerous occasions.

“I want to thank Liew for his patience and understanding, as he has consistently come forward to remind the council about the road issue here which has caused the residents some inconvenience,” Lo explained after inspecting the site yesterday.

He was accompanied by councillors Amy Tnay and Wilfred Yap as well as Penghulu Pui Wen Mei and Kapitan Thian Ted Shin.

The gravel road, according to Lo, was temporary left unattended as there was an earth filling work being carried out at the back of the housing area where heavy trucks needed to enter previously.

“Now the earth filling work has been done, we will immediately move in to tar-seal the road outside their homes,” he said.

“It is not that we do not want to repair the road immediately but sometimes we need time as there is a long list of things needed to be done,” he added.

MPP chairman slams Chong for ‘irresponsible remarks’ over MJC market issue

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman, has slammed state Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen for ‘irresponsible remarks’ on the MJC market issue.

Chong had previously questioned MPP’s motive for taking over the management of the market from Triple S Marketing effective July 1, accusing MPP of intending to charge hawkers exorbitant fees.

“This issue has been blown out of proportion by the opposition who did not even try to get a clearer view of the entire situation from all parties before accusing the council,” Lo said after inspecting a road issue at Jalan Taman Sri Tapang, Mile 7 yesterday.

He pointed out that to date, the council had not collected a single sen from the hawkers since taking over the management of the market as MPP was still in the midst of re-registering hawkers.

“Previously, we collected RM3 out of the RM5 per day charged by Fama (Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority), which managed the market before Triple S Marketing took over.

“The amount collected is used to maintain the cleanliness of the market area. Thereafter, the council in a meeting decided to terminate Triple S service,” he explained, adding that the move was to implement a better management system in the interests of hawkers.

Lo accused Chong of merely attempting to stir emotions, as well as disrupt peace and unity among the hawkers for political mileage.

“I am very disappointed with the behaviour of YB Chong and Liew Ngian Chin (Triple S Marketing proprietor). It is funny why Chong wants to gang up with Liew to do such a thing,” he said, questioning Chong’s principles as Kota Sentosa assemblyman and Kuching MP.

“All he (Chong) does is go and find trouble and cause all this nonsense. He should go and find out and understand the real situation first.”

Lo reassured hawkers that they could continue to trade as usual and that there would be no change to the fees charged.

“The council is thankful to all the hawkers, in fact, for their understanding and cooperation over the years, especially in maintaining the cleanliness of the place. Without a doubt, they have done a good job,” he said.

He also called on hawkers to ensure good traffic flow in the area by sticking to the designated trading area.

“We have to be considerate and courteous towards the residents, especially those living above the shoplots as well as other business operators as they have been very accommodative and tolerant with the situation.”

Some 400 hawkers trade at the market every Thursday and Friday.
