Lo chides Tan for being ignorant about Malaysia’s history
Jun 28, 2020 @ 17:22
By Ling Hui
KUCHING, June 28: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has chided former Stampin MP Julian Tan Kok Ping from Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak for being ignorant about the history of Malaysia.
Lo, who is a member of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), said Tan should reflect on the promises made by former Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government before criticising him on his comment on Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) chief executive officer Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin who resigned due to disagreement with the prime minister to pay Sarawak RM2 billion in State Sales Tax (SST).
He opined that PH did not deliver on their promises to Sarawak in their election manifesto upon winning the last general election.
“Sarawak got a bad deal when the PH took the helm of ruling the country.
“We were left in the rut even though beautiful promises were made during the PH election campaigns especially in the DAP ceramah (talk).
“Worse still, the DAP leaders promised that the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) would be recognised as soon as they took power.
“Instead, the first thing the Education Ministry did in 2019 was to cut the budget for Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) University College from RM30 million to RM5.5 million and was further reduced to a pitiful sum of RM1 million,” he said in a statement.
Thus, he questioned why Tan still supported and defended PH when the coalition did not honour their promises to Sarawak and yet, at odds with each other now.
Lo said Tan should stop to put the blame on SUPP and support what the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is doing for Sarawakians.
He asserted that SUPP has never strayed away from its commitment to look after Sarawakians’ interests. —DayakDaily

KUCHING, June 25: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang says he is ready and prepared for the coming state election.
He said his Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) team has been working tirelessly since his win in the 2016 state election.
“If you ask me whether I am prepared and ready for the coming state election, I will humbly say that I’m ready, prepared and raring to go.
“You see and I’m telling you that we have been going around since day one after the 2016 state election to bring development and to help the people in the area, and the people on the ground know that,” Lo told reporters here today.
He has earlier visited a house which had been completely repaired at Jalan Cinle at Kota Padawan.
Lo, who is Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, added his team has been facilitating development like projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) from the state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), as well as house repairs.
“GPS provides allocations to help the people, so we need to work harder to help the people.
“So given such assistance from the state government, I see no reason for the people not to support the locally based political parties in the coming state election.”
Lo won his seat, which was created in 2015 following a redelineation exercise by the Election Commission, in the 2016 state election, securing 6,466 votes.
He won the seat by a 1,840 majority, defeating four other other candidates — Abdul Aziz Isa from Democratic Action Party (DAP) who garnered 4,626 votes, Voon Shiak Ni from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) with 883 votes, and independent candidates Sulaiman Bujang and Othman Bojeng, who respectively garnered 61 and 54 votes. — DayakDaily
SUPP Batu Kitang aims to repair 30 dilapidated houses by end of 2021
Jun 25, 2020 @ 17:08
By Jacob Achoi
KUCHING, June 25: SUPP Batu Kitang branch has set a target to repair another 30 dilapidated houses in the constituency by the end of next year.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang who is also Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kitang chairman said the branch has so far repaired 70 such houses since 2017.
He highlighted that the house repairs ought to be continued to make full use of the allocation from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.
“With the RM1 million allocation yearly for each constituency from the state government for such a programme (repair of dilapidated houses), we, SUPP in Batu Kitang branch, are eyeing to repair another 30 houses within this one-and-half years,” Lo said today.
He said this to reporters during a visit to a house which had been repaired, owned by a family at Jalan Cinle at Kota Padawan.
Lo, who is Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman said it was very touching to note the strong community engagement with the house repair programme in the area.
The work was carried out by Kota Padawan Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).
The house, Lo said, was home to 11 family members including siblings who were not married, as well as two children.
The residents are farmers selling vegetables at the Kota Padawan market, as well as selling from shop to shop in the town. — DayakDaily

MPP to find ‘amicable solution’ to Kg Quop poultry farm issue
Jun 24, 2020 @ 12:55
By Jacob Achoi
KUCHING, June 24: The public health concerns raised by the presence of a poultry farm at Jalan Rundim 3B at Kampung Quop has caught the attention of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said even though MPP does not have absolute power to determine or move poultry and pig farms to alternative sites, it will find the best solution to resolve the issue once and for all.
“MPP is aware of the complaint, and is in the process of working with other relevant agencies like State Veterinary Services Department, Natural Resources and Environmental Board (NREB), Department of Environment (DoE) and Land and Survey Department (LSD).
“MPP will work with the LSD, DoE and NREB to find an amicable solution to this (poultry farm) issue,” the Batu Kitang assemblyman asserted when contacted today.
He was asked about the poultry farm at Jalan Rundim 3B at Kampung Quop which was highlighted yesterday by Habitat for Indigenous and Urban Programme (Hidup) founder and chairman George Young Si Ricord Junior who claimed it was affecting 10 households living within the vicinity.
According to George, the poultry farm has been in existence for nearly 30 years and is a nuisance and poses a health hazard to the residents.
Lo also said that LSD is the authority to determine available alternative sites to relocate the poultry farm, stressing that the council only had by-laws to address nuisance which may be applicable to such circumstances.
“MPP will however try to address this issue by working together with these relevant authorities in the interest of our community as commercial and housing developments have rendered animal farming in the vicinity unsuitable and to be resited.” — DayakDaily

30 more houses to be repair under MRP: Lo
30 more houses to be repair under MRP: Lo
By Tania Lam - June 20, 2020 Sarawak TribuneKUCHING: From now till the middle of next year, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang is targeting another 30 houses within his constituency to be repaired under Minor Rural Project — Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak (MRP-PPRMS).
“We have completed the repair of 70 houses from 2017 until now. This is a very good programme and we have been able to help a lot of people,” he said at the handover of a newly repaired house under MRP-PPRMS at 10th Mile here yesterday.
He said that the house, belonging to Chin Joon Chin, was the third house which had been repaired this year through the voluntary efforts of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Kota Padawan and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) Landeh.
He said he had helped to purchase the materials required using the MRP-PPRMS funds of RM1 million allocated to each constituency annually. He added that the cost of repairs for each house could not exceed RM15,000.
“I am very touched, proud, and thankful to JKKK Kota Padawan and Rela Landeh as it was all voluntary. I am glad that they are very active and have the heart to serve.
“I used the RM15,000 to purchase as much materials as I could and they came up with the labour,” said Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman.
For Chin’s house, the roofing had been repaired as it was old and leaking.
When interviewed, he said that the house was from his parents and it had been around for 60 years. He said he had lived there for 40 years and eight people lived there – himself, his wife, his sister, and five children.
According to Lo, last week he had handed over another completed MRP-PPRMS house to its owner Tsai Jin Choi at 12th Mile, which had been repaired by JKKK Kota Padawan and Rela Landeh as well.
For Tsai’s house, the roofing had been repaired and the toilet, walls, and windows had been replaced. The total cost was RM17,000, with RM15,000 from the MRP-PPRMS allocation and the remainder being covered by other sponsors.
“I would like to thank our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the MRP to be continued,” said Lo.
Wan Zulkiflee fails to understand MA63, asserts Lo
Jun 22, 2020 @ 14:08
Lo Khere Chiang |
KUCHING, June 22: As much as 30 per cent of Malaysia’s net profits from oil and 60 per cent of the nation’s gross profit from natural gas comes from Sarawak.
This is a fact that Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang is pointing out to Petronas chief executive officer Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin who has threatened to resign as he disagreed with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over the latter’s plan to pay RM2 billion in sales tax to Sarawak.
To Lo, it is clear that Wan Zulkiflee failed to understand the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Wan Zulkiflee had said in public that Sarawak had ‘no legal competence’ to demand the sales tax and had also said that increasing royalties could make operating in Sabah and Sarawak unfeasible.
“May I remind him that in 2018, Petronas had raised its dividend payment to the federal government by 50 per cent to RM24 billion and paid an additional RM30 billion to the federal government in 2019 at the drop of a hat.
“He, as CEO then had no qualms handing that over then but is suddenly struck with a bad conscience when he has to hand over just RM2 billion to Sarawak in sales tax, to a state which lacks piped water and which not only produces the bulk of the nation’s wealth in oil and gas but is also responsible for his income and that of his many colleagues for the past 37 years because if there was no Sarawak, there would be no Petronas,” said Lo in a statement today.
Lo said it is regrettable that the top Petronas boss did not want to acknowledge that without Sabah and Sarawak, there is no Malaysia.
The Padawan Municipal Council chairman said Sarawakians are fully aware of the important role played in the formation of Malaysia but unfortunately, were given a raw deal.
“Sabah and Sarawak being rich in resources could only look and envy Peninsular Malaysia of its beautiful highways and first class infrastructures facilities when both Sabah and Sarawak should be enjoying equally good highways and infrastructures.
“Contrary to all that, there are still parts of Sarawak without basic water and electricity supply or internet connection,” he said.
“When the Borneo territories become part of Malaysia, they will cease to be a colony of Britain, and they will not be a colony of Malaya. I thought I had made it clear. They will be partners of equal status, no more and no less than the other States now forming the Federation of Malaya.”
He said it has been heartening to see that the new government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is open to honouring the spirit of MA63, the true intent and aspiration of Malaysia as envisaged by the Father of Malaysia, the Honourable Tunku Abdul Rahman.
“Under Pakatan Harapan (PH), we could only see broken promises while the present government is principled enough to deliver on what has been promised to Sarawak.
“To me, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is standing by his promises to Sarawak and he is honouring his promises to Sarawak. Had we still been under PH, it would still not only be dishonouring MA63, it would still be directing Petronas to take Sarawak to court,” said Lo. -DayakDaily
