KUCHING, June 28: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has chided former Stampin MP Julian Tan Kok Ping from Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak for being ignorant about the history of Malaysia.
Lo, who is a member of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), said Tan should reflect on the promises made by former Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government before criticising him on his comment on Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) chief executive officer Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin who resigned due to disagreement with the prime minister to pay Sarawak RM2 billion in State Sales Tax (SST).
He opined that PH did not deliver on their promises to Sarawak in their election manifesto upon winning the last general election.
“Sarawak got a bad deal when the PH took the helm of ruling the country.
“We were left in the rut even though beautiful promises were made during the PH election campaigns especially in the DAP ceramah (talk).
“Worse still, the DAP leaders promised that the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) would be recognised as soon as they took power.
“Instead, the first thing the Education Ministry did in 2019 was to cut the budget for Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) University College from RM30 million to RM5.5 million and was further reduced to a pitiful sum of RM1 million,” he said in a statement.
Thus, he questioned why Tan still supported and defended PH when the coalition did not honour their promises to Sarawak and yet, at odds with each other now.
Lo said Tan should stop to put the blame on SUPP and support what the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is doing for Sarawakians.
He asserted that SUPP has never strayed away from its commitment to look after Sarawakians’ interests. —DayakDaily
