KUCHING: Fifty households along Jalan Kim Choo Shin in Batu Kawah here will benefit from a rejuvenated water supply system soon, once the installation of the new six-inch feeder pipes there is completed.

According to Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, the areas involved will be those at Jalan Fo Bao, Jalan Kim Sin, Jalan Kim Ma and Jalan Kim Choo.

“So far, we have completed the laying of feeder pipes over a stretch of 500m at Jalan Fo Bao in three days, at a cost of RM100,000,” he said during a site inspection at Lotikong in Batu Kawah yesterday, where he was joined by SUPP president Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, SUPP Youth chief Tan Kai, SUPP Batu Kawah chairman Tan Joo Phoi and other party members.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council chairman, said before this, the residents at Jalan Fo Bao had been getting their water supply through small feeder pipes, which were easily damaged and hence, not cost effective.

He also disclosed that the estimated cost for the four projects – with the estimated pipe length to span 2km – would be nearly RM500,000.

He then attributed the commissioning of the projects to Dr Sim, whom Lo said had proven his commitment to the people after winning the election.

“Dr Sim is able to obtain the government’s assistance or grants, which in turn are used to benefit the people,” Lo stressed.
