KUCHING: The young people here are assured of government’s support when it comes to organising healthy and creative activities.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said such programmes would make this city even more vibrant and dynamic than it was before.

“If the people in the city are active, then that would lead them to healthier lives. It would also develop their mind,” he said prior to the launch of the ‘Merdeka Auto Carnival 2016’ at Giant Kota Padawan in Mile 10 near here yesterday.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) chairman, said such activities were much better and healthier than playing ‘PokemonGo’, which had been the rage among many people, especially youngsters.

Lo saw the app-based game as a ‘waste of time’.

Nevertheless, he was glad that there had been many healthy activities being held in PMC jurisdiction.
“Activities like this (Merdeka Auto Carnival) will attract people to Mile 10 and make this town vibrant; thus, helping the local business community,” he said.

Lo then encouraged the public to fully support the young people, who had been coming up with good and healthy ideas.

“We work hard from Monday to Friday, and in the weekend, we want to do something different. There’s nothing better than taking part in activities that can keep our mind active,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Auto Enthusiasts Society president Wan Asraq Alif Ali said the auto carnival, which was introduced five years ago, had been gaining lots of members and followers.

“Auto enthusiasts from Sibu, Miri and even as far as Kota Kinabalu are here today — kudos to the organising chairman Willie Ong and his working committee for bringing the event to greater heights this year.

“This healthy activity is good for our young people, as we share with them what we know about cars, its technologies and also how to drive defensively and safely,” he said.

Later, Wan Asraq brought Lo and other guests to inspect the cars on display.

Also present at the event was GCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd Kuching area manager Anbanathan Pomramu.
