It is a common knowledge that in Sarawak, Chinese schools have a high percentage of Bumiputras, which creates a sense of harmony among races, said Tan Kai, Political secretary to the CM.

Tan Kai who was representing Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian at the earth breaking ceremony of a new school block yesterday at SJK Chung Hua Sejijak added that even the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Adenan Satem had helped out a lot in the Chinese schools.

It is a unique situation as these pupils are not only learning Mandarin but also English and Bahasa Malaysia which would help them a lot in their future. “Being bi-lingual has an advantage in this multi racial country,” he said.

Tan Kai added that of the 107 pupils in the school, 38 percent are Bumiputeras. He said the school need a new school block costing RM1.6 million. Although, he said, the amount seemed to be a staggering big amount, Dr. Sim has already pledged to help them as they had asked for RM500,000.

He also thanked State Assemblyman for Tupoing, Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman for pledging to help RM50,000. Also at the function was State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, Lo Khere Chiang.

The school was built in 1939.
