KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has hit at DAP for claiming credit for the just completed tar-sealing of the 160-metre stretch of a lane (Lorong 3), Off Jalan Stakan in Kota Sentosa.

He described the claim as ‘unfair, unprofessional and very unethical’.

Lo said the tar-sealing work was done by Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) and the DAP’s claim was merely a way to seek cheap publicity.

Lo told reporters this at the council’s headquarters here yesterday to rebut DAP’s claim which was reported in a Chinese newspaper on Aug 4. Council secretary Andrew Joris Noyen and several Chinese community leaders from Kota Sentosa were also present.

The PMC chairman admitted that the council was ‘a bit slow’ in completing the project due to factors such as the presence of drain and Sesco underground cables at the project site.

Work on the RM70,000-project started in January and was only completed on Aug 4.

Lo urged the DAP to get their facts right before making any statement in the future.

On another subject, Lo said the formation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which has been submitted to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for registration, ‘is a Peninsular Malaysia issue and has nothing to do with Sarawak’.

According to Bernama report, the application was submitted on Monday by former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“It is not our (Sarawak) issue, it is a Peninsular Malaysia issue,” Lo said.

He, however, urged Sarawakians be aware of the political development and scenario in the country which was getting more volatile.

“As such we must be united under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to strengthen our position,” he added.
