Lo Khere Chiang: Newbie
working hard to win battle
KUCHING: New face Lo
Khere Chiang is prepared for a tough battle to win the new seat of Batu Kitang
for Barisan Nasional in the coming state election.
“As a new
candidate in a new constituency, it’s a huge task ahead of me. There are a lot
of expectations on myself, but I’ll work hard for it,” he said. Lo Khere Chiang, 56, was one
of 10 candidates from SUPP announced by Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem on
Wednesday.
The others
were party president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian for Batu Kawah, Peter Pau
(Padungan), Milton Foo (Pending), Sih Hua Tong (Batu Lintang), Wilfred Yap (Kota
Sentosa), Datuk Francis Harden (Simanggang), Chieng Buong Toon (Bukit Assek),
Datuk Sebastian Ting (Piasau) and Datuk Lee Kim Shin (Senadin).
Lo believed
that his years of service and sincere work as Padawan Municipal Council (MPP)
chairman would stand him in good stead with voters.
He also said
the positive decisions made by Adenan and the importance of the “Sarawak
factor” would help SUPP in the polls.
“I’m
confident that this time round SUPP will do well under the Barisan ticket and
the leadership of Adenan.
“I believe
Sarawakians from all walks of life will support Adenan in our quest to fight
for what belongs to Sarawak.
“We want the
best for Sarawak and we want the Federal Government to recognise what is best
for Sarawak. That’s what we are trying to achieve,” he said, adding that this
change in direction could be seen in Sarawak politics for the last two years
since Adenan came into office as chief minister.
Asked
whether he would resign as MPP chairman following his nomination, Lo said he
did not have to as he was not a civil servant.
“I’ll still
perform my duties as the chairman of the council,” he said.
Batu Kitang
is one of 11 new state constituencies created in the Election Commission’s
redelineation exercise last year.
