KUCHING: The Barisan Nasionl (BN) candidate for Batu Kawah, Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian is urging voters to give SUPP a chance in this election.

“Give us one chance and support us to contest in those seats (allocated to SUPP). (It’s) only when we’re strong that we can really fight for the people. Safeguarding Sarawak is not only the interest of SUPP, but also of the whole BN Sarawak.

“So vote for us and we can show how strong we can be,” the SUPP President told reporters after his visit to SJK Chung Hua Stapok yesterday to witness the installation of roof beams for the new school block

Adding on, Dr Sim pointed out that in order to safeguard the interests of Sarawakians, there would be a need to have the right people in power.

“Many YBs (elected representatives) talk only. After five years, we miss the opportunities to fix the roads and drains. In five years, we lost the RM20-million opportunity to get these basic things done for the people. If every year we get the funding, we would not hear of these problems.

“If continue to vote for non-BN parties, the same problems would still be there, so voters must choose wisely.”

He also noted that there had been different stages of progress over the past 50 years under BN.
“We are the new leaders who understand the concerns of the voters, particularly those concerning high cost of living and job opportunities.

“As Sarawakians have aspiration for high-income jobs, we have to move away from low-income jobs as they only attract foreign workers. We will outline the details on how to create high-income jobs for the people.

“In order to create policies to address all these issues, we must have a good leadership with the proper people who have proven (track) record in positions of power,” he said.

Meanwhile on the new school block project, SJK Chung Hua Stapok Rebuilding Committee chairman Sim Yian Chai said it would reach completion by June this year.

“It is about 90 per cent completed. Nine classrooms will occupy three floors, while one floor will be for administration (section).

“We are planning for its official opening in September this year, in conjunction with the school’s 70th founding anniversary.

“Works have also begun on the second block, with all the piling done,” he said.

The new block, of which construction commenced last October, costs RM1.4 million. SJK Chung Hua Stapok currently houses 384 pupils, with 28 per cent of them are Bumiputeras.

Dr Sim was accompanied by Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang, who is the BN candidate for Batu Kitang, during the visit.
