‘If you don’t like the BN candidates, think of me’
Adenan (fourth left) sings ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’. He is joined by (from left) Tiong, Soon Koh, Lau (seated), Kie Yik, Chieng, Len and Dr Annuar on stage. |
He said each vote for all the 82 BN candidates in Adenan’s Team is a vote for him.
With his popularity rating at 81 per cent, he said he knew many wanted him to continue to be the chief minister.
“But if you do not like the BN candidates, you think of me. For example if you don’t like (Dato Sri Wong) Soon Koh, you think of Adenan. If you don’t like (Datuk Tiong) Thai King, you think of Adenan.
“Please help them because if they lose, I cannot be the chief minister. We are in one team and I cannot score on my own.
“I must have my team to help me. One man cannot do it alone,” he said during a gathering with about 5,000 WTK Holdings Berhad staffers at the Civic Centre here yesterday.
Taking football as an analogy, Adenan, who is also BN-PBB candidate for Tanjong Datu, said Mokhtar Dahari could not have scored without the help of his teammates.
“So just remember, if you want me to be the chief minister, you must vote for the people in my team whether you like them or not.
“Try me. Try my team whether we can do it or not. If we cannot do it, kick us out in five years’ time,” he said.
Earlier, he reiterated his call to the people to give him five more years.
He also mentioned the 50 policy decisions he had implemented since taking office as the chief minister.
He later urged the voters to come out in full force to exercise their rights to vote on May 7.
“Vote BN if you think of Adenan Satem,” he said.
On another matter, he said he wanted the timber industry to remain as it was now, cautioning that if the timber industry was disrupted, as many as 100,000 workers in the industry and those in downstream activities would be out of job. He said it was unfortunate for state Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen to call for an immediate review and break up the monopoly of the so-called ‘Big Six’ companies in timber industry.
“Chong said something without knowing the consequences of what he said.
“So the decision that you have to make especially those working in timber industry is whether you want to vote the opposition or to lose your job.
“If you want to maintain your job, you know who to vote for. If you want to lose your job, you vote opposition,” he reiterated.
Also present were WTK Holdings Berhad board of directors chairman Pemanca Datuk Wong Kie Yik and BN candidates Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh (Bawang Assan), Datuk Tiong Thai King (Dudong), Chieng Buong Toon (Bukit Assek), Datu Len Talif Salleh (Kuala Rajang), Dr Annuar Rapaee (Nangka) and Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau (Pelawan).
