Minos: State PKR, DAP controlled by peninsula leaders

KUCHING: If Sarawak were to fall into the hands of the opposition after this state election, it would not come as a surprise that the state’s administration would be influenced by unseen hands from the Peninsula.

A PBB veteran Dato Peter Minos was certain that national leaders from DAP and PKR would interfere in the state administration looking at the way they took control of seat negotiations and final selection of candidates for the upcoming state polls.

Minos, who last held the post of PBB deputy information chief, said the state DAP and PKR leaders did not even have the final say on seat allocation, as demonstrated by the problems and delay in finalising their candidates with less than five days before nomination day on April 25.

He added that these opposition parties even had to rely on their national leaders for election campaign materials and monetary assistance.

“Till today, DAP and PKR have not agreed on their candidates and allocation of seats. The local leaders are still waiting and adhering to their national leaders to solve their impasse. It is most likely that Sarawak DAP and PKR are also waiting for monetary assistance and election materials from their Kuala Lumpur bosses.

“So let us question this … what if the opposition wins in the upcoming state election? The answer is simple. Sarawak’s administration will be dominated by decisions and policies forged by the national leaders from Kuala Lumpur. In other words, Sarawak will be controlled by the peninsula people directly and indirectly,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Throughout the campaigning period, Minos believed that DAP would need assistance from the likes of party advisor and veteran leader Lim Kit Siang and secretary-general Lim Guan Eng who is also Pulau Pinang chief minister. Likewise, Keadilan would seek help from party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar to assist in selling their ideology.

In this regards, Minos advised the people to reject the opposition as their local leaders would not possess complete freedom in implementing policies and fighting for the state’s rights.

“The same goes to PAS and Parti Amanah Negara. They are dominated by their national leaders. This is the very thing that we in Sarawak fear and e must not allow this to happen. Do not listen to DAP, PKR, etc…just reject them.”

State PKR chairman Baru Bian was reported on Saturday as saying that impasse in seats negotiation between PKR and DAP at the national level could result in three-cornered fights. He said the allocation of seats discussed at the national level was not in line with what had been decided at state level.
He feared that a few seats could see PKR and DAP going head-to-head if the matter was not resolved come nomination day. Headded that PKR had been ‘very accommodating’ in seat negotiations, staking its claim on 40 seats compared to 49 it contested in the 2011 state polls.

On Tuesday, DAP announced candidates for 10 constituencies namely Tasik Biru, Padungan, Pending, Batu Kawah, Stakan, Mambong, Bukit Semuja, Simanggang, Kedup and Kota Sentosa.
