Give SUPP a chance, Dr. Sim urges voters

Give SUPP a chance, Dr. Sim urges voters

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian yesterday urged voters to give the party a chance in the coming state election by supporting its candidates.

Dr. Sim explained that it is only when the party is strong that it can really fight for the people.

“Democratic Action Party (DAP) has been telling us that if we cannot defend our own seats, how can we defend the people of Sarawak.

“But we are in Barisan Nasional (BN) and through BN we defend the people of Sarawak.  BN defends the people of Sarawak and it is not just SUPP that is safeguarding Sarawak and fighting for Sarawak’s autonomy.

“It is DAP that doesn’t fight for Sarawak’s autonomy, because it is a West Malaysian party,” said Sim.

Dr. Sim, who is also BN candidate for Batu Kawa, said this to reporters when visiting SJK Chung Hua Stapok at Jalan Batu kawa here yesterday  to perform the Roof Beam Replacement ceremony for the new school block.

Sim said what is most important now is to win the seats that have been allocated to SUPP.

“We must tell the public that they must support us because only when we are strong, we can fight for the people.

“It is very important for SUPP members and the people  to give us one chance. You vote us in and I can assure you how strong we can be in fighting for the people of Sarawak,” he said, adding that there were many opposition elected representatives but they talked only.

“We lost many opportunities  to get a lot of basic things done in the last five years. If every year we get funding, the problems will not be there. But if the people vote for DAP or for non-Barisan, the same issues will still be around, so the people must choose,” said Sim.

Meanwhile,  SJK Chung Hua Stapok Building Committee chairman Sim Yian Chai disclosed that the new four storey school block is scheduled to be completed in June this year. The opening is being planed to be held in September in conjunction with the school’s 70th anniversary.

“Works on the project costing RM1.4 million started in October last year. It is now almost 90 per cent completed.

“The whole 2nd floor of the building will be used for administration. The ground floor, 1st floor and 3rd floor will be used for classrooms. There will be nine classrooms,” he said.

He added a sum of RM500,000 were obtained from the Ministry of Finance  last year. The school building committee raised another RM70,000.

SJK Chung Hua Stapok now has 384 students, 28 per cent of the students are Bumiputeras.

Also with Dr Sim during the visit yesterday was Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang who is also BN candidate for Batu Kitang.
