CM’s achievements strong enough to warrant people’s support – Lo Khere Chiang

KUCHING: Sarawakians ought to support the candidates announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for the coming state election, to ensure that the state would have a strong and united voice to demand for the return of Sarawakian rights from the federal government.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang stressed that the coming polls would be a crucial one for Sarawak as it would determine its future.

“Sarawakians from all walks of life must rally behind the chief minister to ensure that the rights of Sarawakians would not be further eroded.

“Our chief minister has made the first step in leading us to know our rights as Sarawakians and also to demand back those rights. Therefore, we all must choose a united front by working together with him (Adenan) because he is a visionary leader with clear objectives,” he told reporters during a MPP Community Programme at RPR Batu Kawah here yesterday.

On being asked whether he would stand as a SUPP candidate in the polls, Lo said he did not want to confirm or deny anything as the nomination day had not arrived.

“I am sure the party (SUPP) leaders have proposed a name list to the chief minister. I leave it all up to the top leadership to decide. Our chief minister knows best.

“Our primary objective is to win as many seats as possible for BN (Barisan Nasional), and Datuk Patinggi Adenan is a leader who can lead us to where we want to go.”

Lo Khere Chiang added that if he were to be chosen, he would be in a better position to serve the people.

“A BN parliamentarian gets RM10 million a year as grant for his or her constituency, while an assemblyman gets RM4 million a year. That is how much we are losing in terms of development funds in a year, if the seats are not won by BN component parties.

“That’s why this coming election is very important. Everyone must support Datuk Patinggi Adenan’s team – for the betterment of Sarawak and Sarawakians, in that we would get more funds to develop the state.”

On the council’s community programme, Lo Khere Chiang said it was a regular exercise by MPP to meet the people.

“MPP is concerned about the needs and aspirations of the people. Our 32 councillors, regardless of which political parties they are from, are working together for the benefit of the people.
“This is the kind of united spirit that we want in interacting with local communities and working closely with other agencies and departments.”

The programme comprised talks by representatives of the council, Unity and National Integration Department, Health Department, police and Fire and Rescue Department, as well as many contests and exhibitions for the public.
