SUPP delivers seven seats

KUCHING: In an unexpected result, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian delivers to the state Barisan Nasional (BN) Batu Kawah and six other seats, namely, Piasau (Dato Sebastian Ting),  new seat of Batu Kitang (Lo Khere Chiang), Repok (Dato Sri Huan Tiong Sii) and Meradong (Ding Kuong Hiing) while  retains Senadin (Datuk Lee Kim Shin) and Simanggang (Datuk Francis Harden).

An elated Dr Sim, flanked by his wife Enn Ong and his mother,  won Batu Kawah seat with 2,085 votes majority, beating Christina Chiew  of DAP and independent candidate Liu Thian Leong.

It was a double blow for Chiew who had a miscarriage on Friday, however, she gallantly accepted the decision of the voters.

In the 11th Sarawak state election, Democratic Action Party (DAP) lost five seats, namely, Piasau, Meradong,  Dudong, Repok and Batu Kawah while Parti Keadilan Rakyat retained Ba’ Kelalan, Krian and Batu Lintang.

Dr Sim, who was also surprised with the result, said he thanked voters for having faith in SUPP as they had narrowed the majority of the opposition.

He said SUPP would fight for the people and serve the people.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang candidate Lo Khere Chiang, who won with a majority of 1,840 votes, thanked his supporters and workers who had stood solidly behind him.

He said he would work towards the betterment of Batu Kitang.
