KUCHING: Minister of Tourism and
Culture Dato’ Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz recently called on the Chinese in
Sarawak to vote in the Chinese Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates so that they
could be part of the government policy making process.
Speaking
to New
Sarawak Tribune after attending a ceramah at the
Padawan Mile 10 open space with BN-SUPP Batu Kitang candidate Lo Khere Chiang
last Saturday night, Nazri said there is concern about the lack of Chinese
representatives in the State Legislative Assembly or government.
“All the
other races are represented in the cabinet except the Chinese. It is
important that the Chinese be represented too. The opposition had had 15 seats
but with all the shoutings, we are not listening to them,” he said.
He urged
the Batu Kitang voters to give Lo a chance to be their representative as he is
a decent guy. He said Batu Kitang, being a new seat, has a high chance of BN
candidate winning.
DAP
candidate Abdul Aziz Isa, PKR candidate Voon Shiak Ni and two independent
candidates are also in the Batu Kitang seat contest.
Nazri
urged the Chinese community to make a right choice this time as Chief Minister
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is all for the Chinese in the cabinet.
Nazri
also said he is all for Lo’s plan to further develop tourism in Padawan areas.
He added that they would soon let the Chinese tourists from the People’s
Republic of China to enter Malaysia without any need for visitor visa.
On
Sarawak, he said the state is indeed a beautiful place and a model state of
harmony for all races. Other states in the country should emulate
Sarawak.
“There is
great racial harmony in Sarawak and I must face the fact that there are some in
my own party who had made uncalled for sensitive remarks. We must learn from
Sarawak on this,” he said.
