KUCHING:
Newly-elected Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang promises to work
closely with his constituents – including those who did not vote for
him.
According to him, the most important thing for him now is to prove that he is the right man for the job, no matter how daunting the task would be especially in view of Batu Kitang being a new constituency.
“I must listen to the people as I am here to serve them. I hope to service Batu Kitang and its people to the best
of my ability throughout my tenure as assemblyman,” he told reporters when met after the announcement of the state election results on Saturday night.
For those who did not vote for him, Lo pledged to prove that he could perform his duties as their elected representative.
“Not voting for me in the state election does not mean that they will be ignored. I promise that I will get to know them better and hope to win their hearts in the future,” he said.
On issues to be highlighted in Batu Kitang, Lo pinpointed the longstanding flood problem in the constituency.
For this particular matter, he would incorporate his knowledge and experience as the chairman of Padawan Muncipal Council (MPP) into identifying the root of the situation and the flood-prone areas, as well as to work together with experts on coming up with the solutions.
“My area (Batu Kitang) is under the jurisdiction of MPP, and I would like to be part of the MPP team assigned to tackle flooding issues in the area.
“This is among many effective ways for me to help those affected by flooding,” he added.
In the May 7 election, Lo won with a 1,840-majority having polled 6,466 votes against Abdul Aziz Isa Marindo of DAP’s 4,626 and Voon Shiak Ni (PKR)’s 883. Independent candidates Sulaiman Kadir and Datuk Seri Othman Bojeng only received 61 and 54, respectively.
