KUCHING: The state government has approved
a RM400,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant for the purpose of rebuilding St.
Margaret Church at Kampung Betong, Jalan Landeh and building a multipurpose
hall in the village.
Deputy Chief Minister 3, Datuk Amar Abang Haji
Johari Tun Openg yesterday presented a
cheque for the amount to the chief of Kampung Betong, Jalan Landeh, Jong Likan
Simboi at his office at Wisma Sultan Tengah here.
“We
are giving the government grant of RM100,000 to rebuild the St. Margarete
Church in Kampung Betong, Jalan Landeh and
another RM300,000 as an additional fund for the multipurpose hall in the
same kampung,” he told reporters after the presentation of the cheque.
Johari also revealed that the government would
be installing street lights along Jalan Landeh to reduce vandalism.
Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Lo Khere
Chiang, who was also present, thanked Johari,
who is also the Minister of Housing and Urbanisation, for the grant.
“This afternoon, I am very thankful to
Datuk Amar because during the election, he also came to support me in the Batu
Kitang Constituency,”said Lo.
Lo pointed out that Johari had also helped
to get the special grant to light up
Jalan Landeh. He revealed that the street lighting issue in Jalan Landeh was a
big headache for Padawan Municipal Council (PMC).
“There
used to be street lights there, and for some reasons, they were removed. With the special grant, that road
will be bright again,” added Lo, who is also PMC Chairman.
