KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk
Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has extended the necessary assistance to Chinese
schools and the Chinese community as a whole, said Sarawak United Association
of Private Chinese Schools Management Board vice-president Richard Wee.
Wee said that apart from the grant allocations to the Chinese schools,
most importantly the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) is given due
recognition by the state government, thanks to Adenan.
“CM Adenan is bold enough to recognise UEC although without any
recognition from the federal side. He is willing to recognise Chinese schools’
contribution and the fact is we want to retain our graduates rather to let them
study overseas and not coming back to the state,” he said during a luncheon
together with the Chinese representatives from various associations in Kuching,
at a restaurant in I.com Square here, yesterday.
He also said that all other policies and actions taken by Adenan fondly
known as Tok Nan had been benefitial to the people and as such he deserved the
people’s, especially Chinese support.
“This is just a beginning, thus we have the hope for him to return as CM
for another five years. There are more significant policies that are beneficial
to people of Sarawak, regardless of race,” he pointed out.
He stressed that the statement by people stating Chinese community are
the supporters of opposition, was incorrect as all this while Chinese also
supported the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) for many years.
“If the government has the policies that are fair to all races, it
deserves everyone support but if it is unfair and incorrect, people should
voice their unhappiness where there is a need of check and balance,” he said.
