Lo Khere Chiang says he has fair chance of winning Batu Kitang seat
KUCHING:
BN-SUPP candidate for Batu Kitang Lo Khere Chiang is happy with his
election campaign so far, stating that he has a fair chance of pulling
ahead of PKR and DAP candidates.
“I’m working hard and I’m not going to rest on my laurels. I want to reach out as much as possible to the people to tell them the importance of voting for BN and for Adenan,” he told reporters yesterday, referring to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
Lo is locked in a five-cornered fight with Voon Shiak Ni of PKR, Abdul Aziz Isa of DAP and two independent candidates – Sulaiman Kadir and Datuk Seri Othman Bojeng.
Meanwhile, Kota Sentosa BN-SUPP candidate Wilfred Yap said he was labelled as the ‘sacrificial lamb’ when he entered the straight fight for the seat against incumbent Chong Chieng Jen of DAP.
Yap believes that the tide is turning in his favour, based on the response during the campaign talks.
“We’ll wait and see on May 7,” he said.
In another development, SUPP Central Election Committee chief Datuk Matthew Chen wanted to know if the leaders and members of DAP Sarawak really wanted the state’s immigration autonomy to be challenged in court, as suggested by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Chen, who is also SUPP organising secretary, likened it to taking away the rights of all Sarawakians.
“If Lim Guan Eng wants to challenge it, he should ask the people of Sarawak if this is what they want.”
He also questioned the need to bring in election workers from Peninsular Malaysia, as though DAP Sarawak is unable to operate without resources from its central leaders.
At the same time, Chen welcomed DAP leader Lim Kit Siang’s admission that Adenan will get his five-year mandate.
“I call upon voters to vote for Team Adenan, so that Adenan has a strong mandate when asking for our autonomy from the federal government.”
