Set up state-level flash flood taskforce, urges Lo Khere Chiang
KUCHING:
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang will propose the setting up of a
state-level committee or taskforce in the coming State Legislative
Assembly (DUN) to address flash flood problems, particularly in Batu
Kitang.
Lo believed he could contribute much to such a body based on his expertise as a civil engineer.
He said the proposed committee or taskforce should include personnel from the relevant departments and agencies.
“I will also be requesting for myself to be included so that I can contribute as the elected representative of Batu Kitang, not just as MPP (Padawan Municipal Council) chairman,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Lo said he would also be raising questions concerning flash floods during the DUN’s question-and-answer and debate sessions.
“I submitted my questions on May 20.”
Flash floods have been a big headache for Batu Kitang folk, particularly those living in Kampung Batu Kitang Lama and Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya, for the last 20 years.
While residents have proposed that the river near their villages be deepen, Lo proposed last February that those affected be relocated.
