Dayung Sangon contestants use leaves (`atap’) to make roofs as part of the requirement to join the contest.
Organising committee spokesperson Emil Hamlyn said this was the second time the village was organising such an event, and among the activities planned is the `Dayung Sangon’ and `Dari Ngigap’ pageant.
Emil said booths selling traditional items and foods as well as an exhibition would start tomorrow. Besides the beauty pageant, there will also be a fashion preview by Emil and a mini traditional Bidayuh longhouse at the community hall.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Datuk Michael Manyin Jawong, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik are expected to be present.
