KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party
(SUPP) has proven that perseverance and hard work are keys to its success in
the just concluded 11th state election.
Its president, Datuk Senator Dr Sim Kui
Hian manged to wrest back the Batu Kawah seat for DAP with a 2,085-vote
majority when he polled 6,414 votes.
After the election results were announced
at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Dr Sim thanked the Batu Kawah
voters for picking him to represent the constituency.
“I would also like to thank the people for
letting SUPP to win seven out of the 13 seats the party contested. This will make a new beginning for the party
to be of service to the people.
“We will not let you down, that is what we
have promised,” said Dr Sim who was seen in a rush to go to hospital to attend
to the bodies found from the recent helicopter tragedy.
Dr Sim also made an announcement to welcome
United People’s Party (UPP) to unite with SUPP and serve Sarawakians as a team.
Another SUPP candidate who won the Batu
Kitang seat was Lo Khere Chiang. He said that he would strive to do his best to
serve those who had voted for him and to identify and meet their aspirations.
“This win is greatly affiliated to our
Chief Minister’s wisdom. He is not only a leader to one community but to all
communities in the state.
“He realises the needs of the Chinese
community and as his candidate, together with my comrades in Team Adenan, we
will work hard to serve the people and not disappoint them,” said Lo.
He also expressed his gratitude to many of
those who have contributed to his win especially to the Chief Minister, the
voters, party machinery members of his team and supporters comprising young and
energetic souls.
Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun
Openg said that his predictions made while campaigning that BN would win
between 68 and 72 seats actually materialized.
“With BN candidates winning in major
opposition seats such as Batu Kawah, Batu Kitang, Repok, Meradong and Dudong,
it has proven that the Chief Minister’s policies had reached the hearts of the
people, particularly the Chinese community,” said Johari.
On the Satok constituency, Johari said he
would continue to further develop the constituency and to be of service to the
people of Satok as he deemed that the ‘second urban development wave’ for Satok
can now proceed due to his success in retaining the seat.
Also interviewed was Fazzrudin Abdul
Rahman, one of BN’s youngest candidates who successfully defended the Tupong
constituency when he polled 10,942 votes.
“Winning this big would only mean that I
have to work harder to live up to the expectations of the people in Tupong.
“In the short run, I need to attend to
problems faced by our youths especially those concerning social issues,” said
Fazzrudin.
