KUCHING: The opposition is giving a false
statement in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) issue in its election campaign,
said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui
Hian last Monday.
“The opposition said that if the people
choose Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming state election, the GST rate will
increase. This is not true at all,” said Sim who is also BN-SUPP candidate for
Batu Kawah during the Hawker Unity Night held at Thian Court here last Monday
night.
“I hope Sarawakians will realise that the issue
is not related to our state election. Our state election is to choose and give
our support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for a mandate
of five more years.
“People had given the opportunity to the
opposition in the last five years, thus now is the time to change support for
the benefit of all,” said Sim.
Meanwhile, BN-SUPP candidate for Batu
Kitang Cr. Lo Khere Chiang asked the crowd do they love Sarawak.
“If you love Sarawak, you should not forget
that Sabah today is ruled by Umno, and this is not what we want,” he said.
He said that the people must protect the
liberal policies in Sarawak.
“We must support our Chief Minister and
also the six SUPP candidates in Kuching,” he said.
He said the people should give
encouragement to the CM for him to continue to protect Sarawak and the welfare
of Sarawakians.
“For MJC hawkers, you are free to continue
to trade at MJC and will not be asked to move.
“But on assessment rate, I encourage all to
pay up to avoid being fined. Don t worry about the discount, we shall rebate
those who have paid,” said Lo.
BN-SUPP Pending candidate Milton Foo, in
his speech said that he was a man telling the truth and would continue to tell
the truth in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and cabinet if he was elected
and chosen.
He hoped to assist Adenan in better
governance and transparency.
Also talking was BN-SUPP Padungan candidate
Peter Pau, who said all races in Sarawak must work together to make Sarawak a
better place.
“I urge the Chinese community to fully
support our government and Adenan because he wants the Chinese to be part of
his ‘Team Adenan’.”
He also said if he was elected, the first
thing he would do was to improve the drainage system in Padungan to ensure the
area is a place of good environment.
Meanwhile, BN-SUPP Kota Sentosa candidate
Wilfred Yap said there were many opposition election posters on GST but GST is
a federal issue.
“This is not an issue in State election. The
ones who actually should talk on GST are Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen and
Stampin MP Julian Tan Kok Ping in the parliament,” he said.
He added that the focus now is on the state
election and to give the full support to the Chief Minister.
