KUCHING: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate
for Batu Kitang Lo Khere Chiang expressed his great disappointment that he was
accused by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) for accusing him of playing gutter politics whereby DAP candidate Abdul Aziz Isa’s grandmother is concerned.
In a press statement to the media, Lo said
he needed to clarify that Aziz’s grandmother came to his events on her own
accord, spoke to the press on her own initiative and never had he once instigated her on any action.
Lo was responding to PKR candidate, Voon
Shiak Ni who alleged that Lo was playing gutter politics by bringing in Aziz
grandmother in the election.
“ Aziz’s grandmother is a person with a
strong character who dearly loves her grandson and is disappointed with his
ways. I was blessed to have her support, and I welcome anyone who comes to
support me,” he said.
Lo has always maintained a good friendship
with Voon despite their political differences. He is facing Voon, Aziz from DAP
and two Independents in Batu Kitang.
Although he considers his rival, Voon as a friend, he was not totally shock that in politics there would be people who
would betray friendship to
garner a few extra votes.
“It is interesting to note that both my
rivals from PKR and DAP were at each
other’s throats long before and even on nomination day in the centre, they were still pointing fingers at each other over their discontentment of
seats.
“It is therefore, strange that Voon who had even threatened to sue Aziz
once could come to his defence without getting the whole picture on the issue.
Voon who claims to know me should know that I am not a person who would go for
personal attack. Today I am sad that friendship can be set aside in her hope of
getting a few extra votes,” he added.
Aziz, added Lo, has access to his grandmother and he should
ask his grandmother the actual fact. Lo said he had a deep respect for all
elderly people and Aziz’s grandmother knew that.
“However, I want Batu Kitang voters to
know that my main aim here is not to entertain untrue things hurled at me by my
rivals but to service them and to upgrade the quality of life for them.
“Batu Kitang has long been neglected in the
hands of the opposition and with the people’s support, I vow to bring in
development that is so badly needed by the rakyat,” he added.
