CM lays out proofs of lies by opposition

KUCHING:  The opposition would get angry every time the government gives away land titles, pays compensation and  issues temporary occupation licence (TOL), said  Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He said the opposition got angry because by doing that the government was proving that the opposition had been lying to the people all these times.

“They have been telling the people  the government is taking the people’s land without paying compensation and taking people’s land for nothing and so on. So every time we do these  – pay compensation, issue land titles under Section 18 or 13 and so on, they get angry  because that is an extra nail in their coffin. That is why they got aroused whenever these things come up,” said Adenan  at media conference at the Old DUN  Building here Thursday night.

“I say that because we got actual figure given to me by the Land and Survey Department, on how much lands we have acquired  and  how much we have paid for  that,” he said, adding that up to last month (March), the government  had paid out RM1.67  billion  in compensation alone.

Of course they will never mention that. Every time we have acquired 942,508 hectares for public purposes – schools, balai raya (community halls), hospitals, clinics,  drainage, bomba, office complexes,  sports complexes,  recreation places, mosques and so on.

So we take the land from the public, we pay the public and we pay them back  by giving them all these public facilities, he said.

And issuance  of land titles alone under section 18  we have issued 217,544 lots  covering 293,197 hectares  under section 13 (413,  519 lots (1, 958,823 hectares).

The total of landownership titles issued were 632, 063 lots (2,252,020 hectares).

Under the perimeter survey, we have surveyed 465 areas totaling 748,167  hectares and those that have already been gazatted are 373  areas  covering 538,945 hectares.

So these figures don’t lie, he said, adding that the statistics were kept by the Land and Survey Department.

Under Section 6 of NCR New Initiative we have 748,167 hectares and NCL Development, 1,438,575 hectares and under Section 18,  293, 197 hectares. The figures are there to show that we have done what we have done, he said.

That is why the opposition doesn’t like to see these figures. Because every time we show these figures, every time we give out land titles,  that is proof enough that they (opposition) have been lying to the  public, and we will continue to do that, he said.
