Partnership to educate people on importance of nutrition: Lo Khere Chiang

KUCHING: Premier Skills Sarawak and One Goal Malaysia, which partnered with World Vision Malaysia, paid a courtesy visit on Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang at his office, yesterday.

Lo said it was good for the three organisations to work together to reach out to the grassroots, especially the younger generations, through football events which could help to educate people on the importance of nutrition.

He said there was a high rate of obesity among youngsters in Malaysia, thus the three organisations came in the right time to integrate among the local communities to develop their skills for employability and to raise their self-esteem.

Premier Skills, an international partnership with the Premier League, is operating in 25 countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas. Through Premier Skills, Premier League meets a global need for community intervention through the power of football.

The two work together with local partners to develop the skills of grassroots coaches and referees and help them establish their own community projects. It takes the best of UK expertise from the Premier League to use football as a force for good and create opportunities for young people all over the world.

One Goal Malaysia is a campaign partnership and global movement of advocates with one goal - Nutrition for every child. With football as the catalyst, One Goal seeks to bring awareness on the issue of child malnutrition (obesity included) in Asia and powerfully inspire and mobilise the football community to take action to increase the number of children in Asia to survive and thrive.

The partnership aims to leverage the power of and the passion for football in the region to tackle the poor nutritional practices and access that have been holding back Asia and Asian football and to ensure that children across Asia eat, live and play right.

Lo commented that it was a good way to educate and empower the grassroots communities, and at the same time, to enjoy sports.

He looked forward to the partnership and the programme to start in early 2017.
