KUCHING: Crime Index for the Padawan District Police (IPD) this year is not much different compared to last year, said Padawan District Police chief, Superintendent Aidil Bolhasan.

According to Aidil, from 1 January until 9 December 2016, IPD Padawan recorded a total of 857 cases compared to 855 last year.

The main contributor of crime in the Padawan area is vehicle theft followed by burglary cases.

“We have recorded a total of 281 vehicle thefts from early this year until 9 December, but the situation is under control,” said Aidil during a press conference after IPD Padawan Monthly Assembly at IPD Padawan near here, yesterday.

Aidil added that for the last two weeks, they managed to recover three cars and a motorcycle which were reported stolen.

He pointed out that locals should continue collaborating with the police so that more police patrols can be deployed in certain areas as requested.

“This is because I believe that the public are still aware of the importance of the police presence to patrol their area,” he said.

Aidil also noted that most of the vehicle thefts happened in the Batu Kawa and Mile 7 areas which are under the administration of Kota Sentosa Police Station.

Aidil also wished Christian police personnel in IPD Padawan a ‘Merry Christmas’ and urged the people to take care of their properties to prevent criminals for taking advantage.

Earlier on, three officers, 27 rank and file and two civilian staffers of IPD Padawan received the Ourstanding Service Awards (APC) during the monthly assembly.

Also present were Officer in charge of Padawan District Crime Investigation Department (CID), Inspector Mohd Rafi and IPD Padawan District Acting Deputy Chief, ASP Mohd Rizal Alias.
