KUCHING: The crime index in areas under Padawan District Police (IPD Padawan) showed a slight increase this year.

According to IPD Padawan chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, 855 cases were recorded in the period from Jan 1 to Dec 9 last year (2015) while 857 cases were recorded in the same period this year.

Property crime contributed to the majority of cases with 281, which mostly involved theft of vehicles.
Despite the slight increase, Aidil said the situation was still under control in Padawan.

He said this during a press conference after the handing over of Excellence Service Award at the IPD Padawan headquarters in Siburan near here yesterday.

“As Christmas is just around the corner, my advice to the public is always be careful when leaving their premises for a long period of time. Keep in touch with any police station nearest to you,” he said.

Meanwhile, three senior officers, 27 other officers of various ranks and two members of the public received the awards.

They were judged based on their service performances in 2015.

Acting deputy police chief ASP Muhammad Rizal Alias and Inspector Mohd Rafi (CID officer) were also present at the function.

Padawan IPD oversees six police stations – Batu Kawa, Kota Sentosa, 10th Mile (Kota Padawan), Siburan, Beratok and Tapah.
