Negotiations on state autonomy expected to end by year end

KUCHING: Negotiations between the state and federal government on the state’s autonomy is expected to end by this year end, announced Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
“I do not not expect early results but I think something will be announced before the end of this year,” he told a press conference at his Hari Raya Open House which was held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Two days earlier (July 5), Adenan had met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to discuss on this matter.

As the negotiations were very complicated and involved matters such as legal and political issues, he said he expected one or two decisions from the negotiations to be finalised.

Asked on what these two decisions were, he said they would be in relation to further administrative devolution and the delegation of power.

The first day of Adenan’s Hari Raya Open House saw thousands of people from all walks of life gathering at BCCK to pay the chief minister and his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu a Raya visit.

Also among those present were Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing and Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg as well as cabinet members and other dignitaries.
