KUCHING: Chinese education in the state should not only be until the secondary level but should be pursued up to university level, said Minister of Local Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“We should get back our state autonomy and allow Chinese education to be learnt until the highest level,” he said in his speech during the Kuching Chung Hua Middle School No,4 Alumni Association dinner at the Association of Churches in Sarawak’s hall here last Saturday.

He also said that it was the hope of the China government to consider setting up a Chinese university in the state.

“This will allow our students to further their studies in Chinese education in the state,” he added.

Dr Sim also urged holders of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) to apply for posts in the state civil service.

“Our Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem has recognised UEC in the state, thus this is the time for UEC holders to apply for jobs with the state government,” he pointed out.
