KUCHING: State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang,
Lo Khere Chiang is calling to the people to patronise the fest or ‘pesta’ at
Pusat Penjaja Komuniti Kampung Bumbok which will be held from Friday to Sunday.
Lo who is also the Chairman of Padawan
Municipal Council said the ‘pesta’ will be opened from 7.00am to 6.00 pm with a
variety of homegrown vegetables, jungle produces, local fruits, traditional Bidayuh food and souvenirs on
sale.
“I am very proud that the Bumbok community
has initiated the ‘pesta’ and this will bring extra income to them. I hope the
place will become popular so that those selling vegetables and fruits at the
roadside will move to a safer place,” he said.
At the moment a number of hawkers are
trading near the roadside which is hazardous to other road users as vehicles
would be parked at the side of the narrow roads, Lo said.
It is time for the hawkers and the people
to change their mindset by going into the Pusat Penjaja Komuniti as there are
ample parking spaces, he pointed out.
Calling on Kuchingites to visit the 30
stalls starting Friday, Lo said they would be spoiled with so many choices of
traditional food and jungle produces.
He also thanked the organising Chairman,
Sanni ak Sipek and the committee for initiating the ‘pesta’.
Lo said the last ‘pesta’ was held two years
ago and it was a huge success. “I only hope this ‘pesta’ will turn the
community centre into a daily hawking centre,” he said.
