Cabinet committee approves new list of councillors

Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said in a statement yesterday that 66 per cent of the over 700 councillors would be new faces.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the new councillors, including those who are reappointed, and sincerely thank all those councillors whose term finished on June 3 for their service to their respective councils and community over the last 36 months,” said Dr Sim.
He added that the councillors would be installed in the coming weeks.
“(As for) the city council of Miri, it will have the ‘angkat sumpah’ (oath taking and installation) on July 21.”
During the installation of the new councillors and council officers, they would be given key performance index (KPI) indicators so that they could be assessed over the next two years, he added.
