PMC Chairman Lo Khere Chiang & State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) is all for the Transport Ministry’s proposal to construct a Bus Rail Transit from Padang Merdeka to Kuching Sentral, said PMC Chairman Lo Khere Chiang yesterday.

Lo, who is also the State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, said the proposal would  help a densely populated area easing the traffic congestion situation.

Speaking in a press conference after the monthly municipal council meeting,Lo said the RM250 million project is still in its initial planning stage and the consultant had asked PMC’s opinion on the matter as it would affect the road Datuk Tawi in Padawan area.

Lo said he supported the project as the leaders in Sarawak had the foresight to plan ahead.

Meanwhile, the council meeting was also the last for those councillors whose term will end today (June 30).

Thanking them for their time and sacrifices, Lo said some of them had been councillor for 12 years and had contributed a lot.

On the issue of drains and erosion, Lo said he had sat down with the Public Works Department (JKR) and CMS which had assured that they are looking into the problem. He called on the people to be patient as they would be doing the repairs by stages.

“Flooding is an issue that has been undertaken by me and Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian. We are working on the immediate issue of dealing with floods, that is, widening the drains. It will take millions. We do what we can at the moment to contain the problem with the funds we have,” he said.

The first two hard hit flood areas to be looked into are Desa Wira and Arang Road in Kuching.

On the council’s projects, Lo said from the feedbacks given during the council meeting, all projects are running on time and in progress.
