KUCHING: Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang said a photograph with a few dead stray dogs posted in facebook is faked.
“None of the local council and certainly not MPP officers are in the photograph. The persons in the photograph are not MPP officers.
“I am saddened that at this moment of calamity we have irresponsible individuals out there attempting to tarnish the image of the council instead of disseminating genuine information. The truth is that there has always been call to me and the council to remove stray animals from the streets. “With the recent rabies outbreaks, more calls are received everyday urging for the removal of stray animals, especially dogs.

“I can understand the concern of the public during this difficult time. It is said that dogs are a man’s
best friend and indeed they are if they are responsibly cared for.
“They greet us and wag their tails like they have not seen us for a very long time, the happiness shown on their faces just like our little children. There are many touching stories of how a dog would risk its own life to save its master, his family and those entrusted with it,” he pointed out.
Lo added that after five deaths due to rabies, many people are confused and scared. He said he felt comforted and heartened to know that there are many out there who are aware of the problem, the reason for the rabies outbreaks and how to prevent it.
He added that SUPP under Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is a doctor himself has been carrying out mass vaccination.
“From now on, we will hold public forums with the Ministry of Local Government to educate the public on the reasons for rabies outbreak and how to prevent them from recurring in future.

“There are many countries throughout the world which are declared rabies free. Unfortunately,
Malaysia is not one of them.
“Today, we are all saddened and remorseful. My sympathies go to the families of the deceased children. I fervently hope that their passing will not be in vain. I hope that we shall all reflect on this day and remind ourselves that we can all contribute responsibly by taking care of our pets, prevent the recurrence of rabies and make Malaysia rabies free.
“Neuter all our pets to reduce unwanted births. Take care of our pets and love them as we would, our children and for that matter, respect all living things on this universe. Dogs are, after all, a man’s best friend,” he said.
