According to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere
Chiang, he has received many complaints regarding this issue lately.
“We have received many complaints from the public and among them were complaints regarding the planting of trees with big branches such as mango trees, coconuts, banana and papaya.
“This not only obstructs the vision of road users who are coming out of road junctions but may also risk damage to electricity and telephone lines.
“It is better if the road shoulder is left in a neat and spacious manner,” he told a press conference after chairing the MPP full-council meeting here yesterday.
Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, warned all that MPP would take action against those who plant such plants at road shoulders; however the council is giving time to those involved to clear off such areas.
“It is the responsibility of those who plant the trees to clear the area as soon as possible,” he stressed.
He also pointed out that millions of ringgit had been spent by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing and MPP in collaboration with the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to implement flood mitigation projects in several flood-prone areas in Padawan.
Earlier, Lo, on behalf of MPP, received a mock cheque for RM5,000 from Sports Toto Malaysia represented by its sales executive Helen Tan Puay Cheng as sponsorship for the Borneo Highland Nature Challenge.
The event, to be held on Oct 29, is among activities organised by MPP in conjunction with the Padawan Raft Safari to be held on Sept 23 and 24.
Also present was MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim.
