SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg dismisses allegations printed on DAP’s campaign billboards in many places here that SUPP is a puppet of Umno.
Abang Johari, who is also state’s Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman countered the claim by saying that DAP is a puppet of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.
“If you choose rocket, it means you also choose former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.
“Be aware in making a choice in the election because we want to get our rights back as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said when officiating at a gathering with the Chinese community here on Wednesday. Previously, they didn’t like each other but now they are friends. I do not know why they want to be friends with Mahathir. The old man seldom came to Sarawak when he was the prime minister.
“The Pan Borneo Highway would have been completed long time ago if he had come to Sarawak regularly,” he said.
He chided DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng for saying he will make DAP candidate for Stampin Chong Chieng Jen a federal minister if the Pakatan Harapan wins the election.
Abang Johari said Sarawak being the largest state in the country cannot afford to have just one minister to represent the state at the federal level.
“Now we have seven ministers in the federal cabinet. If BN wins the election, I will ask the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib to increase the quota for Sarawak.
“We want to have a very strong representation in the parliament,” he added.
On a similar matter, he said it is very important for BN candidates for Sibu and Lanang to win the election. He said if they win, it means the people in Sibu and Lanang are behind him to get back Sarawak’s rights.
At the function, he also announced RM1 million allocation for Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry for its innovation hub and RM1 million to repair United Chinese Association’s building.
Also present were his wife Datin Patinggi Jumaani Tuanku Bujang, Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and his wife Datin Sri Pauline Leong, Assistant Minister of Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, Sibu Chinese paramount leader Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau and Sibu Resident Charles Siaw.
