KUCHING: The state Barisan Nasional (BN) dares to say ‘no’ to BN bigwig Umno because Sarawak’s interest comes first, said SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“The state BN will not hesitate to put its foot down when it comes to protecting Sarawak’s rights.
“The state coalition has always been firm in the stand against BN bigwig Umno if it concerns the interest of the state,” he told a press conference at SUPP Batu Kawah branch office here today.
Dr Sim cited the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (RUU355) as an example, saying that “when a Private Member’s Bill to amend RUU355 was presented to the Parliament in November 2016 by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, the state BN strongly objected to the Bill”.
“It is BN Sarawak (MPs) who said that we will not cooperate and will go against the Bill. That is why it is still stuck in Parliament after the first reading.
“Despite the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister meeting BN Sarawak (MPs) multiple times, the answer was still no. This goes to show that BN Sarawak dares to say ‘no’ as long as Sarawak’s interest is protected,”  remarked the BN candidate for Stampin.
He pointed out that the state BN’s firm stance in protecting the state was very much unlike the Opposition, particularly DAP, which has yet to prove that they will protect Sarawak’s rights.
“DAP has not said ‘no’ to Pakatan Harapan (PH) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Even when he said that all parties in the opposition coalition are to contest under the PKR logo in Peninsular Malaysia.
“DAP’s Lim Guan Eng also has to seek Tun Dr Mahathir’s permission to let (state DAP chairman) Chong (Chieng Jen) be a minister if they form a government. This goes to show that DAP dares not say ‘no’ to Tun Dr Mahathir,” he said.
