Goods fly off shelves at ‘Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat’ in Kota Padawan
KUCHING: ‘Program Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat’ (PJSR) helps bring the community together, regardless of race or religion.
“This is a meeting point for people from all walks of life, to buy groceries cheap. When everybody comes together, there’s a sense of unity, patience and cohesiveness in our community,” said Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang when officiating at the 10th Mile PJSR took place at Kota Padawan, next to MPP.
Lo, who is also Batu Kitang Assemblyman said that the government was able to subsidise around 30 items including sugar, cooking oil, and flour.
As of yesterday, 44 such events have been held all over Sarawak, with five of them happening the same week.
As of April 1, sales was estimated at about RM2.06 million, with 114,300 visitors.
It is hoped that PJSR would help households within 10km of its vicinity.
When the doors were opened, shoppers made for the goods on display.
Tinned creamer literally flew off the shelves as staff on duty repeatedly cautioned shoppers not to rush and be careful.
The queue at the cashier counter built up in a blink of an eye, while staff were seen helping shoppers carry their purchases to their vehicles.
