KUCHING: Sarawakians must vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates to protect their interests in
Parliament and to ensure that their rights are not taken away. Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN)
candidate for Stampin, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said if the opposition members were strong in
parliament, they would pass new laws to override Sarawak’s interests.
“So Sarawakians must protect their interests through the Parliament,” Sim told a press conference at SUPP Batu Kawa Branch Office at MJC New Township here yesterday.
According to the Minister for Local Government and Housing, Petronas alone is one example. “Land taxes in Sarawak amount to RM400 million a year in the form of stamp duties. So you can see how much money is involved. “What we are saying is that opposition always say we are sleeping.
“Go and look at the debates on the Territorial Sea Act 2012 in Parliament. I did not see from the hansard a single DAP MP debating or voting against the Bill. And some of these MPs are still contesting,” Sim said. He added: “I was not an MP at that time and the opposition said I supported GST. “As far as we are concerned, DAP said we are puppets of Umno.
So I want to tell Sarawak DAP that it is the puppet of DAP in West Malaysia. Because Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) dared to vote against the Bill (RU355) in Parliament, that Bill was never brought up for the second reading. Why? Because BN Sarawak under Tok Nan’s (the late Chief Minister’s) chairmanship had instructed all the MPs not to cooperate on the Bill. If Sarawak BN voted against the Bill, are we puppet? You go and ask DAP.
“ Sim, who is SUPP President, is facing Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) Chairman and Pakatan Harapan Chairman, Chong Chieng Jen in a straight fight in Stampin. Stampin, which covers Kota Sentosa, Batu Kitang and Batu Kawah State Constituencies, has a total of 66,240 voters.
