Desa Wira folk encouraged to apply for RMR1M scheme
KUCHING: Families in Desa Wira are encouraged to apply for the Rumah Mesra Rakyat 1 Malaysia (RMR1M) scheme.
Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the scheme is the best opportunity for the low and medium-income group in the area to own a decent home.
He said all the applicants need is to have a site for the house and a stable income.
“I believe there are still many people in Desa Wira who hold the Temporary Occupational Licence (TOL), which qualify them to apply for RMR1M,” he said at the presentation of the qualification certificate to Diana Labung at Desa Wira here yesterday.
Dr Sim, who is Batu Kawa assemblyman and BN’s nominee for the Stampin parliamentary constituency, said TOL holders could apply for financial assistance from Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) through the state government to build the RMR1M houses.
The RMR1M scheme is funded by the federal government through SPNB to provide affordable quality homes for Malaysians in line with the government’s national housing objectives.
Dr Sim said Sarawak’s quota for RMR1M this year is 1,000 units of which only 170 have been approved.
He said five RMRIM houses have so far been completed in the whole of Stampin constituency, adding that each house cost about RM68,000.
RMR1M is a single-storey house with three bed rooms.
If the house owners have money, they can make extension to the house.
Head of SPNB Sarawak branch Wan Habeeb Alli and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang were also present at the event.
