KUCHING: SJK(C) Stampin received their new school building after it was completed within one year.
The project,  funded by San Chin BBCJV Sdn Bhd, was built with a cost of RM17 million and is located within the Gala City Integrated Development located near the current school at Jalan Tun Jugah.
According to company managing director Lee Chin Teck, the 30-classroom school was funded by the developer following a land swap deal to relocate the current aging school block.
“I had pledged to complete this school one year ago during the earth-breaking ceremony and today, I am proud to handover this school,” said Lee.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, in his speech that was read by Education Ministry Director General Datuk Dr Amin Senin, said the federal government has always acknowledge the existence of Chinese medium schools.
“The Barisan Nasional government will always ensure that the Chinese medium schools will always be part of the education system and will ensure their welfare is taken care of.
“The private-government initiative such as this is always welcomed as part of the national education master plan to improve facilities of dilapidated schools,” he added.
Earlier on, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the relocation of SJK(C) Stampin means the traffic jam, especially during lunch hour, will be a thing of the past at Jalan Tun Jugah.
“It is a big achievement for the city towards providing better livelihood and quality education at the same time,” he said.
Also present was Kuching City South Commission (MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan.
