KUCHING: The yellow bees of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) have started preparing the ground in the run-up to the 14th General Election (GE14) by giving a pep talk at the Hui Sing Hawker Centre on Thursday night.
Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is SUPP president, showed up unannounced to raise the team spirit and motivation.
After mingling around with the people, he took the mini stage and reiterated his concerns about things that matter to Sarawak, especially issues that will be affected by decisions in the next four years.
“The Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) is different. Did they take care of the Chinese education, contribute to various places of worship including temples and churches and have Chinese community leaders?” he asked, urging the crowd to ponder.
“It is so important for all of us Sarawakians to get united because we need the strength as one so to have that power.
“With that power, we will have the financial ability which is crucial for greater progress,” he said.
GE14 is the only opportunity, he added, to make Sarawak better and ensure that Sarawakians come first.
Later, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) councillor Amy Tnay, who is also the party’s Central Committee member, reminded the people that former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, had sacrificed himself for the betterment of Sarawak and its people.
“We must continue his legacy and keep his spirit alive because he was the one who brought about the Sarawak dream.
“Sarawak has the most parliamentary seats – 31, and let’s deliver them to Sarawak BN,” she urged.
“With that, we can have one loud voice and greater negotiating power to demand, instead of begging, including for our rights from the federal government,” she said.
Tnay pledged: “The fate of Sarawak is in your (the citizen) hands and if you deliver, we will show you and work on it”.
SUPP Women chief Kho Teck Wan shared that she was excited and looking forward to what the digital economy, which Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg initiated,
would bring to the people and Sarawak.

Tan (on stage) shares his concerns about the politics of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
“I am also hopeful for the LRT (light rail transit) to materialise because it will certainly improve our mode of transportation in Sarawak,” she said.
“So I call on the people especially the youth of Sarawak to follow and back our chief minister so we can help him realise his goals,” she urged.
To love Sarawak is to protect her, Kho added, while asking the people to give Abang Johari and Dr Sim a chance to build a better Sarawak with exceptional culture.
A political secretary to the chief minister Tan Kai and SUPP Youth secretary general Milton Foo also took to the stage to criticise the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan, particularly its chairman, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“It was that old man who had done bad things and taken
many things from Sarawak. And why now trying to make amends?” Foo said, referring to Dr Mahathir.
“So don’t listen to what DAP is saying because those are all fake hopes,” he advised.
MPP chairman and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang was also present.
