MPP receives greenlight from Land and Survey Dept to transform 46-acre land

KUCHING: The park to be established on a 46-acre land at Jalan Batu Kawah here will be dedicated to the memory of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Adenan – the fifth chief minister of Sarawak – passed away last Wednesday at Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samaritan.

According to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, the proposal for the park was brought up to Adenan prior to the state election last year.

“It was 7.30am on Saturday when I arrived at Datuk Patinggi  Adenan’s house. Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu allowed me to see him. On my way up, I remember seeing him on top of the stairs – still in his sarong. I suddenly felt guilty for coming so early in the morning,” Lo told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Lo said within a month after that meet, MPP received a letter from the Land and Survey Department granting the approval for the park.
“I am now even more determined to protect this piece of land and to develop it into a park, just like what he (Adenan) would have envisaged,” said Lo, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman.

Lo conveyed his condolences to Jamilah and her family, adding that he was sure Adenan would have been ‘content with his achievements on earth’.

In describing the state leader, Lo said Adenan ‘came roaring like a tiger and left gracefully like an angel’.

“He showed us the ‘Adenan’s Way’ and left behind a legacy and also a challenging task for his successor to inherit,” he said, observing that millions of tributes to Adenan had been made via Facebook, WhatsApp and many other social media platforms.

“This goes to reflect the affection that the people feel for a true-blue Sarawakian.” Lo then recited an old saying: “We only know how good a leader is after he dies, not when he lives.” Adenan, he added, was his greatest teacher and had reminded him to work hard in order to gain the trust and love of the people.

“To Adenan, I will devote my political career to continuing his dreams. I will train and mobilise the ‘rakyat’ (people) of Batu Kitang as my pivotal strength to continue his struggles in bringing about a better Sarawak for all communities.”

Meanwhile, Lo together with Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian joined a special prayer session at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Saturday.

According to Lo, it was a very touching moment to see so many people from different backgrounds coming together as one big family, pouring out so many sentimental messages and tributes to Adenan.

“It is difficult to find the perfect word to describe the worthiness of Datuk Patinggi Adenan. I’m not good in expressing my emotions but like many amongst us, I have shed more than a tear for our humble hero,” he added.
