MPP gazetting areas as parking fee zones

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is in the process of gazetting certain areas within its area of administration as parking fee zones.

The council’s chairman Lo Khere Chiang said whether MPP will impose parking fees in any particular area would depend on the need to ease traffic congestion.

Lo did not mention when the gazette exercise will complete and the areas to be gazetted.

“Whether MPP will impose parking fees in any particular area will depend on the need to do so to ease traffic congestion in particular, and the willingness of the majority to impose parking fees,” Lo who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman said when contacted yesterday.

Asked whether the council would conduct a survey to get feedback from the people, Lo replied: “We will cross the bridge when the time arrives.”

He noted that there are people who support the idea of imposing parking fees, while there are those who are against it.

It was reported in June last year that the council has yet to implement parking fees pending a study, which was being made.

While Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) and Kuching City South Council (MBKS) have implemented parking fees a long time ago, MPP has yet to implement the system.
