Lo Khere Chiang: Council working with police to curb crime

KUCHING: Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council and  Batu Kitang State Assemblyman. Lo Khere yesterday assured the public that the council was constantly working with relevant authorities, particularly the Police Department, in preventing crime.

Although they were not often publicised or promoted, there had been a lot of collaborative efforts between the police and the council  to decrease the crime rate in Padawan, he said.

“There are many things that should be kept confidential from the public. Should we call a press conference for every single time that both side holds a meeting together?

“Rest assured that we are holding operations from time to time to decrease the crime rate here in Padawan,” he told a  press conference   held at the council headquarters.

With him was Deputy Chairman of the council, Dato’ Ahmad Dato’ Sri Ibrahim.

Lo added that he called on the press conference to refute claims made by the Democratic Action Party Chairman and Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman, Chong Chieng Jen and his special assistant, Abdul Aziz Isa.

“Apart from that, I would also like to thank the community for being cooperative and responsive to  the council and the police in preventing crime, especially gambling.

“They were very active in giving feedback to us through various channels such as  Talikhidmat, Whatsapp, Facebook, letters to the council and even  Councilors on the ground,” said Lo.

Padawan District Police Chief, Superintendent Aidil Bolhassan also spoke at the press conference.

He disclosed that police had busted 29 cases of gambling  in Batu Kawah and Kota Sentosa so far this year.

“In one case, the offender was fined RM8,000 after he was found guilty. Quite a number of fish machines were also seized,” said Aidil.

He also revealed that  from 1 January, 2016 to 31 January, 2016, there  were  900  crime cases compared to 907 for the same period in  2015.

“We will further intensify our operations, especially in identified places,” said Aidil.
