‘WhatsApp group, cctvs can help deter crime’

Lo Khere Chiang (BN-Batu Kitang) called upon the Padawan district police chief to allocate an officer for every crime watch group and for this officer to be included in their WhatsApp (free messaging mobile application) groups.
“After all, this will better help the police to assist the community in deterring crime”, he said in the DUN sitting yesterday.
Lo said that the officer monitoring the WhatsApp group could alert police mobile teams to the destination where a crime is taking place. He pointed out that we must not shy away from providing information to the police, as long as we have reasonable doubts on the presence of people or vehicles that should not be in a particular area.
“Our main objective is to deter crime” he said, adding that we should alert our neighbours via the neighbour crime watch on our WhatsApp group. Lo also called on the government to install cctvs monitored by the police at strategic points in his constituency as a pilot scheme to deter crime.
Meanwhile, Lo asked the government to allocate funds to Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) to upgrade basic infrastructure related to sports, parks and children playgrounds in his constituency.
He revealed that there are 80 recreational areas and parks in PMC which lack proper infrastructure.
