KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem will bring more people-friendly policies and development progress.

These are expected to be implemented in the years to come, said Head of the State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“I am confident that under the leadership of the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, many policies, programmes and development projects will be introduced and implemented, to ensure the continuation of development and the prosperity for the people,” said Taib in his opening speech during the 18th State Legislative Assembly held at State Legislative Assembly building, Petra Jaya, yesterday.

He added with all the deputy chief ministers, ministers and assistant ministers appointed to their respective positions, it is clear that the Chief Minister had formed a strong team through a combination of old and new faces in the State Cabinet this time.

Taib noted with the new State Cabinet and their portfolios, he believed that the responsibility and duty of the ministers and ministries were more robust and focused in accelerating the development of Sarawak.

“I have high confidence that the new cabinet line-up will be able to fulfil its mandate and responsibilities with integrity, commitment and dedication.

“The people have given their great support and mandate to the Barisan Nasional (BN) to form a strong and stable State government.

“With the advent of political stability, it will make it easier for the State to formulate and implement development policies and taking care of the people,” he said.

He also pointed that the BN manifesto had been accepted by the people because of the comprehensiveness of the manifesto which covered  various aspects such as the socio-economic development, preservation of the environment and defending the rights of the people and the State in Malaysia.

“I believe that the State government will fulfil the promises that have been made during the State election campaign and fulfil these responsibilities with honesty and sincerity in the interest and welfare of the people and the development of Sarawak State,” said Taib.

Meanwhile, he also congratulated all the newly elected assemblypersons and reminded them to serve the people with their best services in addressing the problems and issues of the people.

He said all the honorable members who had been elected must shoulder the expectations and the needs of the people.

“They are the intermediates in the presentation of information on government policies and development agenda to the public and they are also responsible for identifying issues and problems faced by the people and thus help the government and elected representatives to find the best solutions,” said Taib.

He also advised them to always stay close to the people as it was important in order for them to understand the pulse of the people in effort to solve their issues and problems quickly and effectively.

“They (assemblypersons) also must always maintain a good relationship with the government and the people as it is crucial in order to enable the development to be carried out smoothly and successfully in their respective areas,” he said.
